Mr Mexted

Today I found out that one of my favorite teachers passed away.
Roger Mexted was my teacher in Standard 4 (Year 6) in 1993.
But he wasnt just any teacher.
When I was in sixth form, it was Mr Mexted who was the teacher I thought of first when I realised I wanted to become a teacher.
In 2008, I spent four weeks doing sole charge as a teacher in his Year 5 class, teaching me how to teach. It was four hard weeks of work as the Bossman put me to task with his class.
I now teach a Year 5 and 6 class, and use many of his quirks, such as the Mexted Tip Out for messy desks and the Mexted Tie for students who answer a Round The World question at the same time. I still follow the biggest piece of teaching advice – Get lots of pegs to clip together the multitudes of paper that covers a teacher’s desk.
It saddens my world to know that a great teacher is no longer with us. I endeavor every day to be half as good a teacher as Roger was. Most days I fail even at that.
My thoughts and condolences go to his family and to his long time colleagues at Wellesley College. He has left a unique hole which will be very difficult to fill. He will be missed.
